(MY MOTHER'S FATHER/GRANDFATHER'S ANCESTRY)

Note:  twin brother Isaac whose son was called ‘Black Baby’) born Harbour Island – moved to Abaco during his father’s employment there.

Note:  Abraham’s Uncle Charles ‘Uncle Omby’ Roberts was married to Mary Ann. (contact – Hensley Thomas Roberts – for further details).   Abraham was employed as the First mate on the M.V. Ena Kay and several other boats owned by the Kelly family of Nassau.  The M.V. Ena Kay made stops at the Port of Miami, Nassau and Harbour Island.

Abraham died at his residence Augusta Street North, Nassau in the presence of his Grandson Terence, Grand daughter Evelyn and relative Susan Roberts. 

Matriarch:  Nina nee: Sawyer – 1876 – 1984 Age 108 years

Father:  E. L. Sawyer of Spanish Wells, Eleuthera

Mother: Sarah Albury- Hall of Rock Sound, Eleuthera who worked for E. L. Sawyer’s Father grocery store on East Bay Street.  Sarah Albury is said to have had a son, Howard Albury

Note:  Nina’s uncle Robert ‘Bobby’ Albury was married to “Femenengie” a short lady from Harbour Island.  Nina mother is said to have had another brother, Sammy ‘Sammynengie’ who lived in Andros. 

Prior to Nina’s marriage to Abraham, she moved to Key West, FL, where she worked for a family as a housekeeper; then returned to Harbour Island where she and Abraham were wed and later moved to Nassau, where she stayed in Hospital Lane at a house rented by the Sybil Nichols family.  She was candy maker and baker at Black’s Candy Kitchen, located on Malborough Street across from the British Colonial Hotel, Nassau.  Originally, Anglican she worked at the Convent near Graycliff and the Priory.  She later converted to Catholicism.

Abraham and Sarah were said to give birth to 13 children

including two sets of twins

 

 

1. Thomas Henry Roberts 73 years.  (Feb. 24 1900 – December 17^th, 1973) married to Rowena Alreta Higgs of Harbour Island. Note:  Rowena Higgs’ father was Samuel Moon Higgs, whose wife was Laura Cleare-Higgs and Laura’s mother was Sitera Cleare (nee?)

 

·         Evelyn Roberts- Wells 84 years.  (May 25^th 1922 – March 4^th, 2007) married to Herbert Wells, Sr.

 

·         Terence Francelot Roberts 33 years (1924 – 1958) married to Zelma Bowe (1936 – 2006)

• Thomas George “Tommy” Roberts 47 years (July 10^th, 1949- September 6^th, 1996) – Notes:  thrice married – Mildred White 1970; Anne Scace 1972; and Edris Laing 1993.  He was father to five children
• Paula Rowena Roberts – two children- Chelsea and Julio Francis
• Elizabeth Marion Roberts (Betty)
• Terrance Livingstone – married to Lavender Parker - three children- Aryana, Terrance, Imani
• Antonius Julio- married to Anita Gomez – one daughter- Antonia

• Caspar Conliff -12 children, 11- grandchildren, married to Carrolyn Barr (8 children before marriage) Clint (5 children) Maurice, Tara (2 children Sean and Tiara), Traline Neely ( 1 daughter), Deandrea –Miss Bahamas 2007, Twin to Dioan ( 2 children), Nigel, Shane Wilson (1 child), Andrea, Adrian, Anton, Destiny  
•  Cherilyn Barton  -married to Charles Munnings- 3 sons, 2 grand children Corwin, Corey (Corinique and Colton) and Carlos   
• Marilyn Barton –  married to Vincent Tinker -2 Sons –Tamar and Terrell

 

·         Miriam Regina Roberts 58 years. (April 20^th 1933 – July 29^th, 1991) married to:   Notes:  worked on cruise ship Queen of Nassau? Which burned at sea – head housekeeper facilitated the hiring of numerous family and friends from Harbour Island. She became an ordained Minister and was pastor of the St. Margaret Road Native Baptist Church.
